Predicted Winners in BOLD

I will have something up regarding the state of the men’s draw as I think that topic deserves its own post.

Juan Martin del Potro VS Joao Sousa – JMDP pulled a massive upset that opens many doors for possible medalists in the top half of the draw.  JMDP should win this match, but Sousa is a tough customer (as we sometimes say in Kentucky).  Also, JMDP may have a letdown after pulling such a massive upset.

John Millman VS (4) Kei Nishikori – Millman put up a dominant performance in the first round.  That is probably as good as it will get for Millman.  Nishikori’s return should flourish on these slow courts.  Also, Kei played well in Toronto so getting through his first round should make travel and tennis fatigue from Canada will be less and less of a factor for Nishikori’s chances.

(6) Gael Monfils VS Rogerio Dutra Silva – Gael’s solid summer could land him on the medal stand in Rio.

Gilles Muller VS (5) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga – If these courts were slightly faster, I might be picking Muller based on Tsonga’s dodgy first round win.  Muller has played quite well since the grass court season began, but I think his game is based on attacking so a slow surface doesn’t help him.  Tsonga is also an attacking player, but Tsonga has a more well rounded game and that means the slower surface shouldn’t bother Jo’s game as much.

(10) Roberto Bautista Agut VS Paolo Lorenzi – The grinding Spaniard should win.

Kyle Edmund VS (WC) Taro Daniel – Jack Sock’s failure should benefit Mr. Edmund.

(13) Philipp Kohlschreiber VS (WC) Andrej Martin – Kohlschreiber has had a quality career.  Could he claim a medal to be the centerpiece of that career?

(WC) Radu Albot VS (9) Marin Cilic -Marin should love these high bounces.  He can hit through a slow court while his opponents may struggle ending points.
